The last full week of June is designated New Jersey Dairy Week under a resolution signed on Monday May 13, 2019 by the governor. Assemblyman Ron Dancer sponsors the measure (AJR113) promoting the role of dairy products in a healthy lifestyle.
“Children and adults alike can benefit from healthy, nutri- tious dairy products,” said Dancer (R-Ocean). “Dairy is a convenient source of vitamins D and A, calcium, potassium and other valuable nutrients.”
Dancer, a long-time member of the Assembly Agriculture Committee, noted Dairy Week will also bolster the state’s important dairy industry.
“There are less than 100 dairy farms remaining in the state,” he said. “We can help them survive by promoting the indus- try and spreading the word about new products and healthy options.”
Consuming milk, cheese and yogurt contributes to bone health in young people and helps lower blood pressure and reduce the risk of diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
