In one of the worst recessions in United States history, many businesses could not survive the sudden “downturn.” However, some people took that “downturn” as opportunity. One of these people is Glenn Scher.
Glenn was told by many people that this was not the time to invest in a retail business. They said “The economy is to unstable for such a big investment.” That did not affect Glenn’s outlook. He pushed forward to accomplish his dream of having his own flooring store.
On January 1, 2010, Glenn opened Carpets to Go on Route 9 North in Howell. He started his business with a vision of having not only “in stock” inventory, but very personalized service. He found a location in Howell, purchased a forklift and started to purchase inventory. Word spread quickly and the business started to grow.

We asked Glenn, “Why flooring?” He replied, “My parents opened their first carpet store in 1973 in East Brunswick, which grew into four stores within 5 years. I have learned through the years many aspects of the carpet and flooring world from my parents. I decided at age 41 that it was my turn to open a flooring store to support my family.”

Glenn and his wife Laura, who were high school sweethearts, married in 1995 and have two sons. When speaking with Glenn about his family, his eyes light up.

Glenn has a true passion about his company. He loves meeting new people and treats his customers like they were part of his family. Carpets to Go has a relaxed, no pressure environment.
