For over 60 years in the business, Howell Driving School has earned a great reputation for responsible driving instruction. They specialize in instruction for first time drivers providing programs for teens (15-18 years old) and adults. They also offer a road test and a refresher course, a defensive driving course where a seasoned driver can work toward removing 2 points off their license and gain a premium insurance reduction of 5-10% for 3 years. Tiffanie Jones Artis and her husband Anthony are the proud owners of both the Howell Driving School and Gene’s Driving School in Matawan. Ms. Artis is the President of the Management Company, Sitra Development Incorporated. She and her husband Anthony bought both businesses in 2018-2019 and have taken them to the next level. The companies have experienced a 30% sales growth with focus on marketing and branding, product development, operational excellence, and superior customer service. Artis has also recently launched a travel agency focusing on group travel within the United States and the Caribbean.
Prior to Ms. Artis becoming an entrepreneur, she spent 25 years in Corporate America leading Fortune 500 brands. Artis’ brand management roles include being the Head of Marketing for North America at Maersk Line, the largest shipping carrier in the world, Executive Global Brand Director at Avon Products Inc. where she was responsible for its $2.5B Global Cosmetics Category, Marketing Director for Alberto Culver’s Multicultural Hair Care portfolio and Brand Manager at Unilever for its consumer brands Suave and Degree. A native of Chicago, Ms. Artis holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accountancy from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She also earned a MBA from Indiana University, Kelly School of Business where she majored in International Strategic Marketing. She studied abroad in the MBA Exchange Program at the Jouy-en-Josas School of Business in Paris, France and participated in the Michigan Ross School of Business Executive Education program.
Ms. Artis is a member of the Monmouth Regional Chamber of Commerce, Howell Chamber of Commerce, Letip Chapter of Freehold, National Association of Driving Schools, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. She is an MLT Capstone Fellow- a prestigious Career Advancement Program. The couple have two children, Isaiah and Alessia.
Both Driving Schools combined serve the counties of Middlesex, Monmouth, and Ocean.
For teens- The school provides classroom instruction for teens who want to complete their driver’s education and earn their state certification (instruction permit.)They offer vision and written exams, a certificate of completion and behind the wheel, one on one seven days a week driving lessons with pick up /drop off at school or at home with fully licensed and bonded driving instructors. They also cater to children with special needs and anxiety. All instructors receive annual background checks, and are recertified by the NJMVC. For Adults- if you have never been behind the wheel, the driving instructors at both facilities are dedicated to help you learn to drive safely and the right way. They will work with you to schedule behind-the-wheel driving lessons at times that work within your busy schedule. They also offer court required lessons for insurance renewal, senior lessons to keep you on the road, and a written exam tutorial for new drivers and suspensions. Both driving schools have successfully followed Covid protocol to keep clients and instructors safe by offering appointment only time slots, with only two at one time in the office, by disinfecting the office area before and after appointments, by sanitizing the inside of each car after every lesson, by following masks guidelines where clients and instructors keep masks on during driving lessons, by keeping windows down three inches, and by using hand sanitizer. These measures have insured continuation of their superior services throughout the year.
